Gale force winds have been blowing the Suki Sweet II for going on 3 days now. With gusts up to 40 mph at times, it’s been a rocky time. No boats have left our marina, or the Key West harbor. On occasion we’ll spot a lone sailor puttering into the dock, all bundled to get supplies to take back out to his sailboat anchored out, or being ‘on the hook’ as they say in the boating world.
We’ve found that our yacht neighbors have been kind to check on us to make sure that we have sufficient bumpers on the side of the boat to keep from knocking into the dock. We are fortunate in our marina position in that the winds are blowing us away from the dock. We’ve bundled ourselves for walks, and continue to ride our bikes.
We have been relaxing, walking, riding our bicycles and enjoying fabulous food. The restaurants here in Key West are excellent. We broke away from eating seafood last night and enjoyed a rich and warm Italian meal, perfect for a cold and windy night. Dinner was followed by music on the back porch, and a long night’s sleep. We have plenty of blankets as the cabin gets a bit cold being that it is in the lower part of the boat.
It is our friend Jim’s last night here in Key West. We’ll be heading to dinner at a Tapas restaurant. Hope it’s warm in there.
We are watching the winds and hoping for a southwest blowing. Our next direction is northeast, therefore we want the wind blowing from behind us, that way we won’t be fighting the waves. So far, this pattern is not in the forecast. We’re ready for a new adventure. However, being stranded in Margaritaville isn’t so bad.
Signing off from Suki Sweet II
