Ahoy from Key West!

We made it, yippee!!!  I’ve never felt so happy to put my feet on ‘terra firma.’  It was a rough day at sea.  So rough, I’m afraid I couldn’t even capture the waves in the Florida Bay to share with you, as I was not feeling too well.   My friend Susan from Yankeetown wrote to us with concern as she knew better that the bumpy seas would have gotten to her.

For the first hour, I, “first mate” drove the boat in hopes that keeping my focus on the horizon would keep my mind off my queasy tummy.  Unfortunately, it didn’t work.  So the Captain took over, and I found comfort on the stern in a cushy chair with the salt air blowing in my face.  Richard looked down upon me from the helm to make sure I hadn’t been blown over board, every few minutes, as he toughed the waves, and it was all I could do to give him the thumbs up.  By the time we arrived in the vicinity of Key West, I was finally feeling well enough to assist in the arrival.

We approached the channel entering Key West, looking for the green marker, and found it, finally!!!  When entering the channel, always keep the green marker on your left.  Whenever Richard and I are in the water he shouts, “What is it Honey,”  and I yell back, “It’s Red, Right, Return!!!”   With the wind rushing in our faces he yells, “What is it Honey?”  and I yell back louder, “Red, Right, Return!!”  That way we’re always sure to be on the ‘right’ side of the markers.

Home Free, or so we thought.  Just as we approached the Green Marker, we saw these huge black rocks just beneath the crystal green water.  Yikes, “Back up!”  and we did.  Whew.  We went west for another mile and entered the channel at the correct Green Marker.  Wow, it just goes to show how important it is to pay attention.  And Richard says that paying attention to detail is not something that comes naturally to a salesman…  So that’s become my job.

We found our way to the A&B Marina and parked our boat amidst an array of some of the most gorgeous yachts around.  See our photos under the Key West Category.

For my friends that enjoy the romance in life, you’ll understand when I say that sometimes I feel like “Wendy” holding onto Peter Pan’s ankle as we fly through our adventures.  And just like Wendy with Peter, I will go anywhere with Richard.    So, stay tuned as our adventure continues.
